About Kaizen Fitness Martial Arts
Kaizen (Ky'Zen) is a Japanese word meaning "ongoing continuous improvement", a statement that pretty much sums up what we are trying to accomplish as martial artists here at Kaizen School of Karate.
We teach Freestyle Wado Ryu Karate. We are proud to be members of both The Temple Institute of Martial Arts and WKA Scotland. All our grades are ratified by both organizations, thus giving our students grades recognition in hundreds of martial arts schools throughout the United Kingdom.
Our Aim is to teach modern Karate with traditional values. Originally developed as an unarmed form of self-defence on the Japanese island of Okinawa, Karate is now a complete martial arts system which incorporates strikes, punches, kicks, blocks and take downs.
Rather than tell you about our championship and black belt rankings, we choose to focus on our students. We are justifiably proud of our instructors' accomplishments; nevertheless, we're more proud of our students' achievements. Our instructors understand that each student's individual progress should be the main focus of their attention. That's why our instructors continue to be students themselves. They take classes, attend seminars and continually work to improve their ability to help our students reach their goals.
In all forms of martial art, and for that matter - most arenas of sport that require skill, a participant's ability will only ever be measured by the quality of his or her basics. This is why we place such great importance on practice and the quest for perfection in Kihon (Basics).
We also place great emphasis on Kata, a choreographed sequence of techniques, which appear to be used against imaginary opponents. Kata is an integral facet of every student's training and an invaluable tool in developing skill in the use of combination techniques as well as balance, fitness, focus and spirit.
All of our students have the opportunity to compete in both national and international competition, within the traditional and the open circuits; however club activities are not just confined to competition. There is a great family atmosphere and indeed many parents train along side their children.
Karate is an excellent way to develop flexibility and fitness whilst focusing and developing the mind and spirit. Everyone trains to achieve different personal goals, some students train for fun, to get fit, or to learn self defence, whilst others train to lose weight or to improve self confidence and self discipline.
